About World Literacy Mission

A mission that began in 1958.

World Literacy Mission was established with a simple belief: education should not be limited by age. Our work is focused on creating accessible literacy opportunities for older adults who were left behind by traditional education systems.

Our story

Education should remain open throughout life.

For many older adults, formal schooling was never an option. Our approach centers dignity, patience and practical learning in small community-based groups.

We believe the ability to read and write can strengthen communication, confidence and participation in everyday life. The mission is designed around learners rather than around age as a limitation.

“Learning does not have an expiry date.”

Our principles
